Aledo wrestlers came home with plenty of honors at both the varsity and junior varsity level in tournaments last weekend.
The varsity boys and girls competed in the Talon Tournament in Haslet. The Bearcats were highlighted with a first-place finish by Collin Chaney in the 285-pound division, while Brice Bohn and Chad Thomas were each third at 106 and 120 pounds, respectively. Zachary Attaway placed fourth at 150 pounds.
"Great day for our Bearcat wrestlers!" said an excited coach Austin Stockon. "As a team we placed top five."

Chaney, competing in his first tournament ever, pinned all four of his opponents to take the title. One of his matches lasted just 46 seconds.
Freshman Bohn and Thomas, a team captain, both fell to regional qualifiers their first matches but were able to battle back.
The Ladycats placed second in their weight classes, team captains Avery Kernan (106) and Kyra Wright (114), along with Baillie Sessom (185). Rilei Blankenship (144) placed fourth, while Serafina Ceron (120) and Arianne Mathias (144) each finished fifth.
For Sessom, it was her first tournament ever in which she's competed.
"Our girls got the Talon Tournament kicked off with some great wins," Stockon said.
JV competes at Martin
The junior varsity boys had their first tournament of the season, competing at the Warrior Invitational, hosted by Arlington Martin.
Three wrestlers won all of their matches by pins, Grady Saunders (126), Antonio Jimenez (190) and Bryce Vonasek (190, there were two divisions at 190 pounds).
Second-place finishers were Carlos Obregon (215) and Lucas Todd (157). Placing third were Jayden Escalera (120), Luke Turner (157) and Michael Parks (165).
Finishing fourth were Jack Opstad (120), Grayson Hubbell (138), Kyle Krall (157) and John Hardin (190).

There was not a coach. Bohnen [Recent Aledo High School graduate Cole Bohnen] met with Wood [Athletic Director Steve Wood] and figured out the logistics as well as what they needed to find in terms of a coach.
“Above wrestling knowledge,” Wood spoke about his coaching expectations. “We want to hire somebody that’s going to come in here and care for our kids and make our kids feel worthy, whether they are the star or a backup. The rest of it will take care of itself,”
Wood hired Austin Stockon, a former Aledo football player who had been the assistant wrestling coach at Weatherford at the time. Not long after Stockon got the job, Texas Elite Wrestling Club put on a camp at the Aledo Community Center while their facility halfway between Aledo and Azle was being built.
“I had heard his name from Coach [Wood] whenever he was starting the program,” Stockon recalled meeting Bohnen. “I actually went and watched the video of the school board meeting just to see him for myself.”
Stockon and Bohnen skipped the formalities and got right down to business.
“He walked up to me and introduced himself,” Bohnen remembered. “Then immediately he was talking to me about his vision for the program, what he wanted to do for practice this year, he started talking to me about moves and what was going on in the wrestling world at the time.”
